B. The admissions categories

Priorities 1: Siblings
We give preference to siblings of students already enrolled in the school. Because of our commitment to keeping families united in a single school, siblings of existing students move to the top of their respective category.

Priorities 2: Alumni
We give preference to children of alumni. All applications for the children of alumni will move ahead of all other applications in their respective category, second only to the siblings category.

Priorities 3: Children of Teaching Staff
The children of teachers will be guaranteed admission as long as it is believed that the school can meet their particular needs, and all other admission criteria are met fully. Such admissions are to be agreed by the Head of School prior to signing the contract of employment.

C. Policy of Inclusion
MLSI is an equal opportunities school, which welcomes all students regardless of any differences in their identity, origin, abilities and beliefs. The teaching and learning at the school is designed on the principles of differentiation and inclusion.

Admission policy for children with SEN:

When completing the Admission Form, parents are required to complete the section relating to Special Educational Needs if their child has been diagnosed with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or it has been recommended and they seek an assessment.

At MLSI children with Special Educational Needs are defined as those who, despite being placed in chronologically appropriate grades and being provided with opportunities for receiving instruction, are unable to meet expected standards in skills and knowledge without extra support and consideration.

If an assessment has been carried out, it is a requirement that a copy of the assessment report be submitted at the time of admission.

The school’s Special Educator will examine the report and may meet with the child and the parents. On the advice of the SEN teacher, the Head of School will take a decision on the admission of the student. This will depend on the school’s ability to meet the Special Educational Needs of the student.

The school will be able to meet the needs of the students under the following conditions:

  • When the student has a learning need which can be met within the school and does not require the full time support of a SEN teacher or other professionals.
  • The student is able to access the curriculum with modifications and his/her needs can be met through differentiation in the classroom in the Primary School. The same will apply in the Secondary School through special lessons and considerations during examinations.
  • The student does not have a behavioural condition or social-emotional issues that require clinical intervention and/or cause interference and disturbance in the learning in the classroom, or in any way compromise the safety of other students.

MLSI will seek to follow the model of inclusion. The students will be placed in the mainstream classroom in chronologically appropriate grades. The classroom teachers and single subject specialists will practice differentiation. The students with SEN will be provided with in-class support by the SEN teacher as far as possible with some amount of individual help in the resource room. The SEN teacher will also prepare an IEP [Individualized Education Plan] for the students. There will be regular monitoring of the programme and the IEP.
