PYP Exhibition 2020

Name of the Student: ADAM ATTARI
Issue: PLANT CONSERVATION
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue Plant Conservation with SDG no. 15 which is Life on Land. We now know that Plants support the entire ecosystem, let me show you some verification: They provide oxygen necessary for humans and animals to survive, they provide food for both types of eaters as without the plants which are in the bottom and without the herbivores there are no carnivores. They provide shelter and several vital human products like wood and medicine which improved civilization greatly. Finally, if we plant more trees we are also working against climate change as plants reduce the amount of carbon dioxide. I conclude that plants support the existence of the entire race almost single-handedly.

Name of the Student: ALISAH SEN
Issue: URBAN SPRAWLING
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Urban sprawling with SDG no. 15 –Life on Land. My issue connects with this goal as due to urban sprawling the natural land is getting affected. These lands are the habitats for various flora and fauna. As humans are fulfilling their greed to have more amenities, they are destroying shelter for other living things and several vital human products like wood and medicine which improved civilization greatly. Enfin, it’s important to limit our needs for the survival of the varied diversity of animals and plants.

Name of the Student: AARAV KARKHANIS
Issue: WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Wildlife to the sustainable goal number 15 - Life on Land My issue with this goal as animals live on land and they play one of the most important roles in the environment. This goal enhances global support for efforts to combat poaching and trafficking of protected species, including by increasing the capacity of local communities to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities..Without wildlife, the entire ecosystem will collapse.

Name of the Student: RAYYAN HINGORA
Issue: CLIMATE CHANGE
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Climate Change with SDG no. 13 – Climate Action. I connect climate action to my issue as we have to take action to prevent climate change before it is too late or else we are planning our own doom. And it is vital that we enlighten people about the impacts of climate change. I also connect this goal to my issue as when I was reading about climate action I came to know that it is not only trying to prevent the hazardous consequences of climate change but also trying to prevent pollution and many more harmful effects on earth.

Name of the Student: NISHKKA MEHTA
Issue: CORAL REEF CONSERVATION
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Coral Reef Conservation with SDG NO.14-Life below Water. As coral reefs are not only part of the marine ecosystem but are also considered the habitat for many small fishes. So, if corals are not there some of the marine life will also lose their habitat and a part of their ecology.

Name of the Student: SARAL PAL
Issue: POACHING
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Poaching to sustainable goal number 15 - Life on Land because through this goal the UN takes urgent action to end poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna and address both demand and supply of illegal wildlife products. The UN organisation like UNODC is working on illicit poaching and trafficking of wildlife which poses a threat to the survival of many species.

Name of the Student: MOKSH JAIN
Issue: INDUSTRIAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Industrial Waste Management with SDG no. 12- Responsible consumption and Production. Industrial waste is the most dangerous form of waste as it contains various kinds of hazardous elements that are severely damaging to the environment and human life. It is very important to reduce, reuse, and recycle all the generated waste to maximum efficiency. There are many organizations that work towards helping industrialists to manage their waste. This goal targets to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse by 2030. Hence as a global citizen, I felt that it was my responsibility to take action and spread awareness of sustainable development in this area.

Name of the Student: NEIL SINGH
Issue: WATER SHORTAGE
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Water Shortage with the SDG NO. 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation because clean, accessible water for all is an essential part of the world we want to live in and there is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this. Water scarcity, poor water quality, and inadequate sanitation negatively impact food security, livelihood choices, and educational opportunities for poor families across the world. Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems is essential.

Name of the Student: OHANNA SANKHE
Issue: OVERPOPULATION
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Overpopulation with the SDG NO. 12 - Responsible Consumption and production because it relates to my inquiry on resources and overpopulation. Our livelihood, economy, and well-being rely greatly on biodiversity and the ecosystem. I feel together we can and we must aim for handing over to the future generation a healthy planet with little pollution and a vibrant ecosystem. We must ensure the responsible consumption of resources with minimum to no wastage to build a happier and healthier place for all living kinds.

Name of the Student: KRISHAY PHAD
Issue: AIR POLLUTION
UN Sustainable Development Goal: I connect my issue on Air Pollution with the SDG NO. 13 - Climate Action and 7-Affordable and clean energy. I connected my issue with goal no. 13 because it tackles climate change. Many of the air pollutants that affect our health also warm the atmosphere. Actions to improve air quality—such as switching to cleaner energy, cooking, and transport solutions—will also address the climate emergency. Goal no. 7 connects with my issue as it targets access to clean and affordable energy—which is key to pulling people out of poverty and enabling sustainable economic development. Three billion people cook and heat their homes with dirty fuels. The resultant air pollution kills almost four million people each year, mainly women and children. Clean and renewable energy will save lives and boost economic development.

Name of the Student: Aarnav Mavinkurve
Issue: Urbanization
UN Sustainable Development Goal: Goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities. Cause it’s important that efficient urban planning and management practices are in place to deal with the challenges brought by urbanization. Urbanization is when we change rural areas to urban areas, and when we destroy villages to make roads and more and more and more buildings. It can be good and bad for the environment. People move into cities and because of that, they take more land.

Name of the Student: Aaron Bapuna
Issue: Waste Management
UN Sustainable Development Goal: Goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities. I chose this issue as I saw that a lot of people were throwing trash on the roads which give off potentially unsafe gases. Due to the absence of continuous garbage-collection systems, convenient landfills, open canals and drains are being blocked by dumping huge amounts of solid and garbage wastes. Thus, they create a problem such as a flash flood. These garbage wastes are mostly plastic and papers and little toxic materials.

Name of the Student: Anaya Shah
