Grandparents Day Celebration At Mount Litera School International
Grandparents play an essential role in the lives life of every child. The pampering that kids receive from their grandparents leaves a lasting impression on their lives. Grandparents Day is a day to celebrate the connections between the generations. This day is dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the vital contribution made by grandparents to the well-being and education of children within their families. It is an opportunity for the family to show their respect and gratitude for the older generation.
While it is not as widely celebrated as Friendship Day, Father’s Day, or Mother’s Day, the day is increasing its popularity. And, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with one’s grandparents.
Grandparents Day History
The roots of Grandparents Day go back to a West Virginia mother named Marian McQuade. In 1956, while helping to organise a community celebration for those above 80, she became aware of many nursing home residents who were forgotten by their families. She wanted a holiday to bring attention to those forgotten individuals and to honor all grandparents. In 1973, West Virginia became the first-ever state to have such a day. Marian and others then shifted their efforts to the national level, achieving success in 1978.
Purpose And Importance Of Grandparents Day
The purpose of the holiday is – to honour grandparents, to allow grandparents to show love for their grandchildren, and to help children become aware of their grandparent’s strength, information, and guidance.
Grandparents Day Activities
Many international schools in Mumbai like Mount Litera School International (MLSI) celebrate Grandparents Day with special activities or assemblies. Kids often invite their grandparents into the schools for a day, and the children find creative ways to celebrate their grandparents.
Mostly, grandparents don’t care what activity they do—they just want to spend time with their grandkids. Many National Parks also organise special Grandparents Day events, and it can be fun to spend time with grandparents exploring nature. No matter what, the best Grandparents Day activity involves kids and grandparents together, celebrating each other.
Grandparents Day Gift Ideas
Some families get greeting cards or gifts for the grandparents on Grandparents Day. Most grandparents would say that a handwritten card is a perfect gift. Another great tip is simply to take them to a fun place somewhere.
Grandparents can also teach one skill, like how to fish or to play old games that they used to play when they were kids. Or, perhaps it would be fun to make arts and crafts together.
One can also try making one of the dishes that their grandparents make for them, like Grandpa’s Pancakes or Grandmother’s Blueberry Cake, both made by talented grandparents.
On Grandparents Day, it is simply the thought that counts. Lastly, while Grandparents Day is a lovely idea, respecting them and spending some time with them don’t necessarily need a particular day. One should spend time daily with their grandparents.
