It is a common misconception that extracurricular activities serve as a distraction for students and end up hindering the academic focus and performance of students in the long run. MLSI as an institute of education consistently strives to eradicate this belief. In the ideal situation, education should be a comprehensive package focusing on evolving students on an academic, mental, physical, social, and creative level.
Extracurriculars play a dynamic role in the student evolution we envision. Activities ranging from art & theatre to physical activity & team activities such as sports play a striking role in the comprehensive growth of students. Here are some of the clear benefits of integrating extracurricular revolving around the domains of art, theatre, public speaking, sports, and entrepreneurship.
Social Integration
Individuals hone and develop their social skills in the early years of school. Participating in extracurricular activities allows students to explore their hobbies, while effectively forming bonds with students who have the same interests. MLSI presents itself as a culturally rich and diverse body of education and we actively encourage positive interaction and team building activities amongst students of varying backgrounds.
Future Career Prospects
It is no secret that both global and Indian universities look for well-rounded students. Extracurricular activities can add more personality & character to a résumé which improves the quality of the student’s overall university application. Excelling in these activities can help students stand out amongst the competition in the future as well as help them hone skills which could shape their career. Students form life-long bonds at this age, and blending with like-minded individuals can only be an advantage for them.
Essential Life Skills
One of the most striking benefits of taking part in such activities is the development of ‘real-world skills’. These skills include (but not limited to) – goal setting, time management, problem-solving, leadership, public speaking, analytical thinking, and prioritization. The more a child exerts himself/herself in extracurricular endeavours, the chances of honing these skills increases.
Work-Fun Balance
Sitting in a classroom the entire day and all week is bound to fatigue and exasperate children. They must be exposed to activities which interest them on a daily basis, and which keep them motivated, physically sharp, and eventually ensure they enjoy their day at school. Children need constant stimulation in the form of interactive and physical activity, and it would be quite detrimental to understate this notion.
The extracurricular activities at MLSI are curated keeping all the above factors in mind. Along with the traditional and popular hobbies like theatre, dance, art, and sports, the institute has devised a host of contemporary options keeping in mind the ever-changing likes and preferences of modern students. These include –
- Entrepreneurship Club – Students are scarcely exposed to entrepreneurial activities and base-level economic principles at young ages. An Entrepreneurship Club can serve as the ideal platform for the cultivation of a business mindset. A basic understanding of the human resource, marketing, finance, legal, and operations departments will help youngsters in the long-run.
- Model United Nations – A MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nation that aims to impart education about current affairs, international relations, diplomacy, and international agendas. The fundamental purpose of this club is to educate students about international points of conversation and enable them to develop their own skills of public speaking, researching, writing, critical thinking, and negotiation, among many others.
- Crime Scene Investigation – Students learn elementary forensic analysis skills that utilise basic scientific principles. Imparting of knowledge is done through games and engaging activities. Analysis of evidence may include fingerprints, handwriting, DNA, footwear, trace evidence, and more. It culminates in the examination and analysis of evidence from mock crime scenes so that students can experience the high of effective puzzle solving. Crime Scene Investigation aids the development of skills such as observation power, logic, reasoning, analysis, and communication.
